Webmaster: This was my first correspondence from Kris on 2/3/08:
"I did a search out of "Spring Fever" today on the Wapsipinicon River and came upon your web site! We have had a cabin along the Wapsie for 10 years, near Independence, and now have made it our permanent home! We love the river! I have some pictures of the Wapsie up here near Independence if you want to add them to your Web Site. Keep up the good work!!"Webmaster: Of course I told her to send them on. So she included these additional comments when she sent the pictures:
"This past summer my husband (Mike) and I took a weeks vacation and drove along the Mississippi River. On our way down, we found where the Wapsie dumps into the Mississippi near Camanche, IA. The actual "mouth" was on private land...but we got as close as we could to it. Then on our way back home, we found the beginning of the Wapsie by following the Iowa map. It was amazing to find it actually starts right in the middle of some farmer's field almost right on the Iowa/MN border in Mitchell County."I think everyone who is familiar with the river will know the area where the school bus is at! It's been there for quite some time! The Lilly pads and the school bus are right before you get to the "narrows" before the "lake" above the Independence damn. The picture of the Wapsie River was taken in the Hickory Heights area. The Otterville Bridge picture isn't the best quality, because it was taken with my cell phone. We were on our pontoon and happened to see the horse and wagon on the bridge watching us, and I couldn't help but snap a picture!"
